Sigismar/Afanas lead 196-player Rouen tournament
Ceadus, a member of the competitive ExAlts team, partnered with Sigismar to win the 196-player Valki’s Rouen Altered Cup tournament in Rouen, France, on Feb. 22. Heaven, working with Afanas, took second place, with the next two places split between Achgrim (Afanas) and Altered Ace’s ClaedeusFR (Sigismar).
The event covered 10 rounds of Swiss play with a cut to the top eight. For the semi-finals and finals, games ran as a best-of-three. It was streamed with commentary by Kapuchon, with guest appearances by Equinox Game Designer Charles Wickham and Art Director Max Fieve. The prize pool for the tournament included up to a personalized playmat, 19 TBF boosters, one Kickstarter display and a promo booster.
According to 39cards.com, across the top eight decks, Sigismar and Afanas each showed up three times with Kojo picking up the last two slots. A total of 76% of the cards listed came from BTG, with 24% from TBF. In the two winning decks, only a total of five cards cost more than three mana: a four-cost Kakoba unique and two Grand Endeavors in Ceadus’s deck and a Banishing Gate and Small Step, Giant Leap in Heaven’s. That’s echoed in third and fourth place, where Claedeus brought one four-cost Kakoba unique and three Monoliths, while Achgrim brought had two Banishing Gates and one Small Step. In the top four decks, a total of 30% of all cards cost one mana.
