Fen wins first Dutch Altered Championship
On February 15th 2025, over 50 Altered players gathered in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Netherlands, to play in the first Dutch Altered Championship, organized by the Dutch Altered Community. In 6 rounds of Best of One Constructed Altered, followed by a top 8 cut, these players, representing at least 5 different countries, raced to be crowned the first Dutch Altered Championship Champion.
The field saw 16 out of 18 possible heroes represented, with Teija (7 decks) being the most played hero followed by Kojo, Sigismar and Afanas (6 decks each).
The top 8 cut saw the number 8 spot forfeit due to other engagements, moving up the number 9 player into the top 8 cut. 6 heroes in 5 factions were represented in the top 8, with only Kojo and Afanas being represented twice. Rin, Lindiwe, Gulrang and Fen were the others.
After 1 round the top 8 became the top 4 and both Afanas and Kojo lost one representative. The player that got the 8th spot after the above mentioned forfeit, managed to get into the top 4, despite having been paired against the number 1 seed.
In two excruciating battles the winner in the end was JoJa, who played a Fen & Crowbar deck. Second place went to Afanas-wielding Graezoth and Gulrang and Kojo, played by Soullord222 and Giinoo respectively, fought for the third and fourth place (again respectively).
Overall the organization (full disclosure, the writer of this article was part of the organization as scorekeeper/administration) was very happy with how this first event was received and played out and have guaranteed that the next set release will again see a Dutch Altered Championship!
