
Sigismar and Afanas lead in AWOL Week 4
ClaedeusFR, of the competitive Altered Aces competitive team, teamed up with Sigismar to win the top spot in the Europe-focused Monday event for Week 4 of AWOL Season 2 Feb. 24. Cram3, working with Afanas, took second place. Both decks were the only two that went 6-0 for the 127-player event. Pevilot (Sigismar) took third, leading the 5-1 block.
In the U.S.-focused Wednesday event Feb. 26, kaiki1 worked with Afanas to take first place, running the only 6-0 record for the week out of 53 players. AFTU_Gamanight worked with Nevenka to take second, and Buchox landed third with Teija, both at 5-1.
Each tournament covered six rounds of Swiss play. The Monday event was streamed with commentary by PaandyAndy and Runefolk, and the Wednesday play was streamed with commentary by Cohlrabi and Taum. Each week, the first and second place players receive a booster pack, and each player who places in the top 16 receives an invite to the Seasonal Invitational, where an additional two booster boxes are available across the prize pool.
Monday tournament breakdown
According to 39cards.com, for the Monday event, Sigismar had the most representation in the top 8 decks at three players, followed by Afanas at two. Fen, Teija and Rin all made appearances in that group, with Fen reaching fourth place overall. Sigismar led 25% of all decks in the tournament, with Afanas at 17% and Fen at 12%. Auraq, Waru and Arjun were the only heroes without any representation. A total of 79% of all cards registered came from BTG, with 22% from TBF. In the top three decks, there were a total of 11 cards that cost more than three mana, and seven of those were made up of Monoliths and Small Step, Giant Leap. Across the same three decks, a total of 40 cards (or 34% total) cost one mana from hand.
Wednesday tournament breakdown
For the Wednesday event, Afanas, Teija and Kojo each led two decks of the top 8, with Nevenka and Sierra each pulling one of their own. Sigismar was at the lead of 26% of the decks, with Kojo running 19% and Afanas taking 17%. Arjun was the only Muna that didn’t make an appearance, and no other Ordis or Axiom hero showed up. Similar to the Monday event, a total of 76% cards came from BTG, with 24% from TBF. In the top three decks, a total of 13 cards cost more than three mana; seven of those come from the three Ajas, one Akhlut and three Hydracaena in Buchox’s deck. The remainder are two Small Step, Giant Leaps and three Nilam trees in kaik1’s deck and a single Small Step, Giant Leap in AFTU_Gamanight’s. Across the same three decks, a total of 32 cards (or 27%) cost one mana from hand.
