Sigismar wins at KelonGuy’s Biweekly Invitational
Sabai, of the competitive team AJT, teamed up with Sigismar to take first place in TheKelonGuy’s Biweekly Invitational on March 1 held on BoardGameArena. Dobby2lobby worked with Afanas to take second in the 24-player event. ELWiwi (Fen) and FraNicoRico (Kojo) split third and fourth place in the event.
The event started with four 6-player groups, with a round-robin style play preceding a best-of-one top eight final set. After the group stage, the top players were permitted to make a deck swap. It was streamed on YouTube with commentary by Blue and TheKelonGuy.
According to 39cards.com, across the top eight decks, Afanas and Nevenka had the most representation with two players each (with one of the Nevenka decks running a Lyra Festival strategy). The winning deck leaned into card draw and control with its rares capping out Baba Yaga and running two each of Ordis Attorney, Jack Frost and Tiny Jail. Rare Grand Endeavor also showed up as a duo. The deck also sneaked two Ozma uniques past the guards (while she awaits an errata in the upcoming March 21 season patch), both of which featured card draw when played from anywhere.
A total of 78% of the cards across all decks came from BTG, with 22% showing up from TBF. In the top two decks, a total of four cards cost more than three mana, those being the two Grand Endeavors in Sabai’s deck and two Small Step, Giant Leaps in dobby2lobby’s deck.
