Fen and Sigismar lead AWOL Week 6 undefeated

Perny led Fen to an undefeated 6-0, one of two decks to do so in the Europe-focused Monday event for Week 6 of AWOL Season 2, on March 10. Cerquas, working with Teija, took second as the other player who went undefeated in the 122-player session.

It was Cytro of the Altered Aces team working with Sigismar that repeated the 6-0 feat on Wednesday in the U.S.-focused event on March 12. Tempetedelaneige teamed up with Afanas and took one loss for 5-1 but still claimed second in the 69-player event.

Each event covered six rounds of Swiss play. The Monday event was streamed with commentary by Blue and Runefolk. The Wednesday event was streamed with commentary from Blue and TheKelonGuy. Each week, the first and second-place players receive a booster pack, and each player who places in the top 16 receives an invite to the Seasonal Invitational, where an additional two booster boxes are available across the prize pool.

Monday tournament breakdown

According to 39cards.com, for the Monday event, Teija and Sigismar had the most representation in the top eight with two decklists each. Fen, Kojo Afanas and Basira made up the balance in the top group. Sigismar was the most popular hero in the tournament overall with 36 players running with him, nearly double the next hero, Teija, at 19. Afanas followed at 17 and Fen at 14. No other Muna hero was represented, and Subhash and Waru both skipped the event as well.

All those Ordis troops could not get a point past Perny’s Fen, however. While the deck runs classic reserve pressure through three copies of common Anansi, two common Magpeng Hoarders can additionally stack stats without taking rare slots. On top of some removal, it also embraces some lane-swapping chaos through two common Heimdall, two rare Hooked and a unique Kappa that boots a character to the other expedition. Other rares include Ouroboros Inkcaster, Tinker Bell, Alice and Aloe Vera. There’s also two Eat Me Energy Bars and one Magic Sleigh, all of which could snag an extra advance with some lucky timing. It’s also supported by a Magpeng Hoarder unique that returns card from reserve to hand and an Ouroboros Trickster that cycles a card from reserve for draw.

Wednesday tournament breakdown

According to 39cards.com, for the Wednesday event, Sigismar held four of the top eight positions, with Afanas taking two for himself. Fen and Lindiwe each had one decklist. This time Sigismar did double up on the next most popular hero, at 19 decks overall compared to Teija’s nine and Afanas’s eight. Gulrang, Subhash and Atsadi had no representation.

Cytro’s winning Sigismar decklist leans into the mechanics that Ordis does at a high level of effectiveness between low-cost token generation, removal and card draw. There are a few uncommon sights in the deck, with two rare Jack Frosts make an appearance as well as two common Issitoqs. Two of the deck’s uniques, a Ratatoskr and Jian, cause fleeting on an opponent’s character, one of the few mechanics that Ordis otherwise doesn’t have access to. The remaining unique, an Ordis Attorney, draws a total of two cards if she fails to move forward and also leaves the expedition zone.
