Afanas wins No-Unique Championship Week 1
Tempetedelaneige teamed up with Afanas to win the first No-Uniques Championship on March 12 with an undefeated 6-0 record. Mrthomsss worked with Basira to take second place in the 52-player tournament on Board Game Arena, and Runefolk, of the Altered Quarantine Zone competitive team, took third with Kojo.
The event covered six rounds of Swiss play in a no-unique format that allows for a 39-card deck with up to 15 rares, the rest being filled with commons. The event was streamed with commentary by Fre3loder.
According to 39cards.com, Teija took the lead as the most-played hero with 10 decks, followed by Sigismar at seven and Afanas at six. Only Waru, Rin and Auraq had no representation. TBF cards were represented at a higher than standard rate at 27%, with 73% coming from BTG.
Tempetedelaneige’s Afanas deck was untouchable even without cycling uniques. It leans heaviest into full counts of Kadigiran Mage-Dancers, Baba Yaga and Helping Hand. Sleight of Hand and Beauty Sleep come in at two copies each, with a lone rare Spindle Harvesters and Field Reinforcements. In commons, it relies on spell cost reduction through Studious Disciples along with removal through Tooth Fairies and Off You Go. Full counts of Moth to a Flame gives Afanas both a token body and a target for the spell boost. The deck carries one copy each of Chrysalis and Rime Frost, and two of Small Step, Giant Leap.
