Afanas and Teija go undefeated in JuancahTV Monday League Week 3
Kaiki1 led Afanas to an undefeated 5-0 win in Week 3 of the JuancahTV Monday League, held June 2 on Board Game Arena. HAT’s Ezelopez repeated that trick with Teija to take second in the 38-player event, and Zarp partnered with Fen to take third.
The event, sponsored by La Ruca de Galvarino, was played across five rounds of Swiss play with Spanish language broadcast by JuancahTV and guests on Twitch.
According to 39cards.com, Teija carried the most attention from players with eight decklists, followed by Sigismar with seven. Sierra showed up third at five lists total. BTG represented 66% of the cards played, with TBF providing 21% and WFM 13%.
Kaiki1’s Afanas deck brings in a lot of the new tools that Yzmir picked up in WFM, but stands out with only 12 characters total in the list. It features full playsets of common Studious Disciple, rare Kadigiran Mage-Dancer (still on the current watchlist) and rare Baba Yaga. Two of those three sets pull additional cards for Afanas, along with two common Conjuring Seal. The three uniques make up the remaining three character slots, including a Daring Porter (3/3), Nyala (3/3) and Sunisa (3/4). Each of those create Mana Moths under different conditions, which gives way to the actual engine of the deck. It runs eight 1-cost spells, including two rare Joyride, three rare Magical Training, three common Rime Frost and one Sap Infusion. The heart of the engine are three common versions of Nilam, Withered Tree, paired with three common Moth to a Flame. The rest of the deck is angled toward straight removal, between two common Evanescence, two common Off You Go and two common Metamorphosis. With that many moths available, Afanas barely needs to worry about bringing a character to the expedition at all, while keeping the spell/boost efficiency at its highest potential.
