Meta report: Early season 3

The meta has changed quite significantly due to Whispers from the Maze. Let’s dive in!

Winners: Atsadi, Basira, Treyst, Nevenka.
Less fortunate heroes: Arjun, Waru, Auraq and Subhash.

Below is a written summary of the meta tier list update. For the full guide look on my channel.

S-Tier: Best heroes to bring

  • Afanas: Dominating the meta, nearly unmatched. Only real weakness is Sigismar. May be due for a nerf.

A-tier: Strong heroes

  • Sigismar: Not as oppressive as in Season 2, but still strong. Especially due to favourable matchups against Afanas.

  • Treyst: Surprised everyone with a win at the Lille qualifier. Good matchups across the board, especially vs. Afanas and Sigismar.

  • Fen: Solid due to strong card advantage. Two viable builds: card advantage builds with Magical training or builds focussed round zero-stat characters.
  • Teija: Very strong anti-aggro pick. Anchored characters and their stats make her resilient, even without uniques.

  • Nevenka: One of the best Lyra heroes. Synergizes well with dice-roll mechanics and aggressive play. Might be biggest winner out of set 3.

  • Kojo: Explosive and consistent. Works great with new set 3 cards for synergy and removal. Cards like the Mess and the Hunger are pumping up its gameplan.

  • Basira: Strong mid-ranged hero. Mana and card advantage from Tiny and Might Jinns make her competitive. Akhlut is still there to close out the game.

B-tier: Decent heroes

  • Sierra: Hampered by widespread permanent removal. Needs lucky draws and specific setups.

  • Atsadi: Powerful but inconsistent. Strong potential when draws align well, but feels really bad when it doesn’t.

  • Gulrang: Strong tools but too slow against current fast-paced meta.

  • Akesha: Potential in control matchups, but overshadowed by more efficient heroes like Afanas.

  • Lindiwe: Was rising but struggles due to easy removal of key permanents.

C-tier: Weak heroes

  • Arjun: Lacks strength and consistency. Outshined by Teija, which can do everything but better.

  • Subhash: Removal and card advantage issues. Hero power drains resources quickly, with no means to secure the expeditions are refill their hand.

  • Rin: Has potential with forest mechanics but suffers from overload and card advantage loss.

  • Auraq: Focus on zero-stat builds, but Fen and Nevenka are doing those builds better. Great to cast Hydra or Mind apotheosis, but too inconsistent.

  • Waru: Over-nerfed. Poor early-game reliability and card draw dependency. Also very bad when getting in the tie-breaker.

D-tier: Not playable heroes

  • Non heroes placed: all heroes are at least playable.

⚖️ Overall Meta Thoughts

  • Afanas may be too dominant and in need of adjustment.

  • The rest of the meta is diverse and balanced, with playable heroes from every faction.

  • Recent tournaments (Dutch Altered Championship and Lille Qualifier) showcased strong deck variety in the top 32.
