Sigismar wins in Chile World Championship Qualifier

ZarpMH worked with Sigismar to win at the World Championship Qualifier in Santiago, Chile, Aug. 30, with only the second Ordis hero represented among the finalists. AFTU_Aklo nearly brought Fen to the big stage, but came up short in second. The event was the third Qualifier in that same weekend, along with Canada and Taiwan.

The 43-player event, hosted by Demente Games, ran seven rounds of Swiss followed by a single-elimination Top 8 cut. The event was streamed with Spanish commentary.

Sigismar had the highest representation with seven decklists overall. Kojo and Treyst came after with six each, followed by five led by Teija.  Among the Top 8, 61% of the cards came from Beyond the Gates, 18% came from Trial by Frost and 21% came from Whispers from the Maze.

Zarp’s Sigismar deck leans into what the Ordis hero is best at, maintaining heavy pressure through tokens, ongoing card advantage and removal.

  • A full set of rare Ordis Troopers make for a cheap After You, and three rare Ordis Attorneys force the opponent to choose between adding to the card advantage or allow the expedition to move forward.
  • Two rare Bumblebeets gather boosts when tokens are added to the table, while two rare Jack Frost and two rare Sandman provide interaction alongside stats. They’re backed up by a single rare Ordis Spy.
  • Sigismar can make use of a Recruit to build more card advantage through two rare Gift of Self.
  • Two common Ordis Criers duplicate the play style of the Bumblebeets, and three common Ordis Accountants give Sandman additional coverage.
  • The deck includes common Teamwork Training and License Withdrawal at a full set of three each of some of the most powerful removal in the game.
  • The decklist pushes some boundaries by running two Baba Yaga (3/3 each), both of which draw a card on each play even though the rare is still under suspension as of the most recent WFM midseason patch. The final unique, a 1/1 Ordis Cadets, creates Recruits when other non-token characters join the expedition.

Prizing and next Qualifiers

Zarp will join other finalists (such as Rinku from the Dallas, Texas, Qualifier) with travel and accommodations paid to the World Championship Finals Oct. 17-19. The Top 8 all received a Top 8 playmat, and the highest-placing player for each faction received their Faction Champion card.

The next BGA Qualifier will be focused on the Americas, running Sept. 6-7, with registration already open and is available to players worldwide regardless of their nationality.
