Altered Gamefound campaign breaks $300k in first hours

Altered’s Seeds of Unity Gamefound campaign reached more than $300,000 through more than 1,000 backers in its first 12 hours, beginning Oct. 28. The goal of about $58,000 was reached in 8 minutes and 57 seconds. The preorder period runs from Oct. 28–Nov. 7.

The new structure marks Equinox’s first steps toward direct distribution, announced shortly before the Skybound Odyssey set release. For this set going forward, backers can choose to preorder the SEEDS set directly from Equinox via the Gamefound, or continue to buy as typical from their local game stores, which have a separate set of possible preorder tiers with exclusive offers.

Retailers, who operate Shop Accounts on the Altered website, have had a wider range of time for preorders as well, running from Oct. 15 – Nov. 10. If backers want to preorder through their LGS, orders for SEEDS must be completed by the end date of the retail campaign.

Tiers and add-ons

For players or LGSs, the preorder tiers include a wide range of options that go beyond just the new set. They include new starter decks showing off a hero each in Muna and Ordis, highlighted in an official article. There’s also the Collector Booster, a new type of pack limited for players but open to retailers as a semi-exclusive product. Add-ons include two new playmats, sleeves, pins and the long-awaited Woollyback plush. About half of the current production count of Woollyback plushes were on order within about a half-hour of launch, according to Lokinox in the official Discord server. While the add-ons require at least one preorder, there’s no rule against connecting with a friend to join in on an order.

The new campaign started with a follower drive to unlock a new alt-art Booda token, which was reached hours before the Gamefound launch. The token will be digitally unlocked for all current and future accounts.

The Gamefound campaign is one change that Equinox is bringing to Altered beginning with SEEDS. Organized play going into the next year will see changes both in local play and leading up to Worlds. Tumult Championships will change to be more flexible events for LGSs. One of the biggest changes is in the Adventure Pass for the upcoming set, which allows for regular play on Board Game Arena to count toward earning rewards.

Aside from the faction feature articles, multiple new cards from SEEDS have already been revealed to give players a feel for the core mechanics and design of the set. Check out our index of all known cards so far.
