Midseason patch puts the most popular heroes, cards on notice
The Skybound Odyssey midseason patch added several of the most popular heroes and cards to the Watchlist, though no other action was taken. With Seeds of Unity on the horizon, the patch hinted that upcoming starter decks might allow some new options for balancing.
Heroes
The patch called out two heroes specifically, Sigismar and Treyst. While Treyst has moved up and down the hero distribution charts throughout the course of the past year, Sigismar has never left the top three (tracked in our ongoing competitive snapshots). Both heroes have seen cards pulled out from underneath them through suspension in past patches: Baba Yaga for Sigismar and Bugfix for Treyst. Treyst has seen more trouble in recovering after each round (first working without Haven and now Bugfix), but Sigismar consistently has held his spot among the top three winners each month. They were both also highly represented in the 2025 Worlds Finals alongside Kojo.
As new starter decks arrive with the upcoming SEEDS set, heroes from the initial Beyond the Gates set can be more easily reviewed, according to the article. Both Sigismar and Treyst were added to the Watchlist. Being added to that list doesn’t specifically mean an errata will come, but that the Equinox team is looking more closely at options surrounding the named cards.
Characters
Several Axiom and Bravos cards joined the Watchlist with the patch, including:
- Dr. Frankenstein (Axiom, rare)
- The Grems (Axiom, common and rare, and Bravos, rare)
- Tiny Jinn (Bravos, rare)
- Haven Seiringar (Bravos, common)
For Axiom, the characters have been powerful tools for a while. Dr. Frankenstein started off in the top three rares in the first month of Altered’s competitive play, October 2024. Since that time, it’s only been in the top three rares a total of six times. The Grems debuted as the top common in Axiom the month that Whispers from the Maze released in June 2025, and has appeared there four times total in that span. It hasn’t shown up in the faction’s top rares.
Both cards have strong interactions with SKY’s new Restocking Station, which also debuted in the top commons for the faction when the set released in October 2025. While that card wasn’t added to the Watchlist, both of these joined Treyst. The Bravos out-of-faction version of The Grems was also added, which also links to the Restocking Station going out-of-faction to Bravos as well.
For Bravos, the focus fell on Tiny Jinn and Haven Seiringar, both of which combo together well for almost any of the faction’s heroes. The two cards work together to provide mana and draw effectively for Bravos heroes, and are well-represented among the top cards. Haven Seiringar hasn’t left the top three commons for the faction since its release in February 2025. Tiny Jinn goes back to the very first month of the game, debuting in the top three rares and never looking back.
