FraNicoRico teamed up with Akesha to win in the AWOL x Equinox WFM Demo Deck Tournament May 25 on Board Game Arena. Quigon96 worked with Atsadi to stake out second place in the 478-player tournament.

The event ran over eight rounds of Swiss play with a Top 16 cut, streamed with commentary from Blue, Cohlrabi, PaandyAndy and TheKelonGuy. It was also streamed in French via Kaaleb’s channel.

Players used only premade decks from the WFM set, which officially releases June 6, and the highest-placing player for each faction won a prize pack of 20 WFM promo boosters as well as six WFM boosters. The available heroes included Subhash, Atsadi, Nevenka, Teija, Gulrang and Akesha. Decklists were available prior to the event to give players the opportunity to try out the new mechanics before the tournament. The demo decks, which include WFM alongside some BTG and TBF cards, will be available on BGA throughout the rest of the season. The leading player for each faction included:

• 20th – Insane94 – Axiom
• 28th – Steeps – Lyra
• 79th – Nagumo1 – Ordis

Decks for the event were constructed to show off specific mechanics for new cards, according to Organized Play Director Cédric Leblanc in the May 21 AMA. While the team hasn’t crossed out the possibility of running a second tournament, staffing would be a major consideration.

The event also served as a test for how future events for Altered might work in partnership with BGA, said Cédric. It was also useful as a way to gain insight on how competitive players will approach the set for the season.

The 512-player event, which represents the first official partnership between Equinox and AWOL, filled in 5 minutes after the registration link was shared. AWOL has remained a major part of the Altered online community since the game’s release last year, and completed its own Season 2 Championship the day before the demo deck event.
