Altered Marketplace and Print-on-Demand now open to public

The Altered Marketplace and Print-on-Demand services are available to the public in open beta, giving all players the chance to pick up those rares they’re after and print copies of their Adventure Pass rewards. The release completes one of the game’s major milestone goals since its successful Kickstarter last year.

The open beta status means that the Marketplace and Print-on-Demand services are available to anyone in eligible countries, but further development will continue on the platform throughout. That also means that the Equinox team is looking for user feedback on the experience as well to direct next steps and improvements. The site includes an integrated tool to open a ticket with the support team for issues, and a new Marketplace discussion channel has opened on the official Discord.

The services have opened to a total of 32 countries currently, with the list mostly overlapping the countries that have been involved in past beta phases.

These specific services are available on the Altered.gg website only, rather than through the game’s app itself. That’s unlikely to change, as the team is trying to avoid additional costs for users coming from platform fees from Apple and Google.

The team shares a list of some of the next steps in the short and medium-term for development in the announcement article, including:

  • opening the services to countries that don’t currently have access
  • allowing players to share purchases to lower some fees
  • improving search filtering
  • increasing the $250 price ceiling for listed cards
  • improving navigation and tool usability.

The team is also re-crediting printing rights for exclusive cards (including alt-arts and promo cards) for those players who used them during the beta, allowing for a new printing or the capability to sell them with printing rights.

Lokinox announced the open beta through a video shared on the Altered YouTube channel:

The open Marketplace and Print-on-Demand come after several rounds of testing in Phase 2 of the beta, which allowed smaller groups access as the team fixed bugs and ramped up capabilities. That phase began at the end of March, following an internal beta phase and the previous closed beta phase earlier in the season.

Opening the Marketplace and Print-on-Demand completes all of the Equinox team’s 2024 digital goals for Altered, which started with a focus on bringing seamless online play through Board Game Arena, card trading and deckbuilding. With these services online, the next stated goals are geared toward increasing support for local game shop owners, a tournament tool and ongoing improvements of current tools.

Bringing the services online has been a fan request since the game’s release late last year, making it easier for players to complete their sets, build a specific deck or hunt for just the right unique. They’ve been a frequent topic of discussion during Equinox’s AMAs throughout the first quarter of this year, with updates on the ongoing work and processes.

The release comes just in time to be among the team’s big announcements as they head to PAX East in Boston, from May 8-11.
