Americas BGA World Championship Qualifier open for registration

Registration is open for the Americas Board Game Arena World Championship Qualifier to be held Sept. 6-7, the second online competition open to players anywhere in the world. Run again in partnership with the AWOL weekly tournaments, this event centers on time zones covering North, Central and South America.

Competitors will be sorted into one of four groups to allow for a larger than standard player cap, leading into a total of 10 Swiss best-of-1 rounds. The Top 32 players from Day 1 will progress to five single-elimination, best-of-3 rounds for Day 2. The winning player will pick up their ticket to the Altered World Championship in Paris Oct. 17-19.

The overall winner will also get a Top 8 playmat as well as their respective Faction Champion card and organized play boosters. The rest of the Top 8 will receive the playmat as well as organized play boosters. The top-ranked player for each faction will win their Faction Champion card.

The event comes just a few weeks after the European-focused tournament, which brought in more than 1,200 players for the duration of all 10 rounds and saw Basira teamed up with Giacomozuu taking the win. That win further broadens the heroes represented in the Finals, with Basira making the second Bravos overall. Kojo picked up his first win in the Dallas, Texas, Qualifier partnered with Rinku. So far, each faction except Muna has at least one hero showing up to challenge the final tables. With an errata bringing a solid change for Afanas in the Whispers from the Maze midseason patch, the meta has been shifting quickly over the last month. For the first time since February, the top-winning hero in July was neither Sigismar nor Afanas. Treyst has seen a surge in popularity, but other heroes have continued to keep up pressure at Qualifier events.
