July Print-on-Demand slot moves, prompts Essen Qualifier policy update

The Print-on-Demand slot scheduled for July 8 was delayed to the next slot shipping July 29, according to an update on the official Discord. The change is due to technical issues related to the unique cards being offered in the bonus Whispers from the Maze offer and has led to an updated proxy policy specifically for the July 26 World Championship Qualifier in Essen.

Orders moved from the July 8 to July 22 slot will still be eligible for the bonus uniques offer.

The delay comes alongside reduced summer printing capacity through Equinox’s partnership with Cartamundi, which allows for two print slots in both July and August. This change makes that date the only printing date for the month, closing July 24 at noon, printing July 28 and shipping July 29. Two dates are available in August, and the print production schedule is expected to resume normally at the start of September.

That change strained players who had ordered cards expecting to use them in the July 26 World Championship Qualifier in Essen, Germany, through White Rabbit Community Game Store. In general, the Official Tournament Guidelines disallow the use of proxies in competitive tournaments “unless publicly issued by the Tournament Head Judge or Tournament Organizer under specific circumstances (e.g., for a card damaged during the event).”

In light of the delay, Cédric LeBlanc, Equinox organized play director, posted an update July 10 to the Essen Tournament policy allowing use of proxies. The update outlines the use of Mana Convergence cards and proof of digital ownership through contact with the head judge prior to the start of the tournament.

While the updated policy handles issues for players in Essen, no similar guideline has yet been shared for the Aug. 9-10 Qualifier event through Common Ground Games in Dallas, Texas. In general, it takes an estimated 3-5 days for cards to ship to the U.S. after printing.

After the July 22 print slot, the next available print slot is Aug. 5, which will no longer be eligible for the bonus WFM uniques offer.
