Kojo picks up first at ACE Week 1

Starshine Simon teamed up with Kojo in Week 1 of Altered Corner Events Season 3, held March 2 on Board Game Arena. ELWiwi of the competitive team AJT worked with Fen to take second in the 36-player tournament. Mandarinpj and Tradaushi both chose Sigismar to tie for third and fourth.

The single-elimination event has players accruing points with wins each week to qualify for the season-end invitational. The first place player each week wins a TBF booster pack. It was streamed on the Altered Corner channel with commentary by Cohlrabi.

According to 39cards.com, Kojo, Sigismar and Afanas had the most representation in the top eight decks, with two each. Fen and Nevenka took the remaining spots. Teija had the most decks overall at eight, followed by Sigismar at six and Kojo with five. Neither other Ordis hero showed up, nor did Arjun or Atsadi.

Simon’s winning deck runs a balance of ramp, removal and boost, with both rare Tiny and Mighty Jinn maxed out and three Havens (which might be seeing a change in the upcoming March 21 midseason patch) providing the only landmark support. Rare Mana Eruption comes in with two copies and three common Intimidations also appear. All three of the uniques build around removal, with a fearsome Hua Mulan that discards a target character with a hand cost of three mana or less (a character ability not found outside Dorothy Gale anywhere in Bravos) played from anywhere.

A total of 81% of all cards in the tournament came from BTG, with 19% representing TBF. In the top two decks, a total of four cards cost more than three mana, those being Simon’s three rare Mighty Jinns and Hua Mulan unique.
