Nevenka rolls competition at Baltimore World Championship Qualifier
Allofthemarbles teamed up with Nevenka to bring another Lyra deck to the top at the World Championship Qualifier in Baltimore, Maryland, Sept. 13. 2IronChainz along with Auraq supported Lyra as well at the final table, taking second. The event was the second Qualifier of the weekend, along with one in London.
The 71-player, event hosted by Games & Stuff, ran eight rounds of Swiss followed by a single-elimination Top 8 cut. The event was streamed by aguytrying.
According to 39cards.com, each of the Lyra heroes was represented in the Top 8. Teija took two decklists, the only hero duplicated in the group. Sigismar and Gulrang both had one each, as well as Treyst. Of the cards played in that cut, 64% came from Beyond the Gates, 15% from Trial by Frost and 21% from Whispers from the Maze.
Allofthemarbles’s Nevenka decklist tipped luck in their favor with plenty of die-rolling and card control/advantage.
- All three uniques were Kadigiran Mage-Dancers (2/2 each) that brought in additional effects connected to die rolls. Two bounced cards back from reserve to hand and the last one anchored per die roll.
- The deck’s rares include full playsets of Ouroboros Inkcaster and Magical Training, creating even more opportunities for replaying cards and adding more to hand while letting the opponent use more mana. It also includes three Daedalus, adding another die roll to feed those powerful uniques.
- Additional rares include two Aloe Vera, adding to the card advantage over time. Two Requiem and one Off You Go provide strong removal coverage without gaining fleeting, allowing the cards to be bounced back to hand after use.
- One rare Martengale joins two commons, boosting the dice when it’s important not to roll a 1 while also providing more mana reduction options.
- The only TBF inclusion is a full playset of common Snowball Commando to add another die roll and opponent interaction.
Prizing and next Qualifier
Allofthemarbles will join other finalists (such as Rinku from the Dallas, Texas, Qualifier) with travel and accommodations paid to the World Championship Finals Oct. 17-19. The Top 8 all received a Top 8 playmat, and the highest-placing player for each faction received their Faction Champion card.
The last World Championship Qualifier will be held in Athens, hosted by Organized Play Events Sept. 26-28.
