Official updates coming for WFM Tumults, midseason patch

Information about the Whispers from the Maze Tumult Championships will be shared July 22, according to a social media post on the official Altered feed. The post detailing the WFM midseason patch will be released July 29.

The original dates for the WFM Tumult Championships were July 26-Sept. 7, listed initially in the “Key dates” section of an official news post. At some point since the set’s release, those dates were removed from the article. While no official explanation has been given, it’s not uncommon in any game for projected dates to shift to match production schedules. Changes have not been announced for scheduled World Championship events or the upcoming Gen Con events from July 31-Aug. 3.

While the information for the midseason patch will be shared July 29, it won’t go into effect until after the World Championship Qualifier event in Dallas, Texas (Aug. 9-10), according to an Equinox post in the official Discord server.

That will allow players in both the Dallas and Essen, Germany, events to compete with their current decks before making edits with the patch in mind. The first online World Championships Qualifier, focused on European time zones, will run Aug. 16-17 on Board Game Arena, and could potentially be the first official event affected by the patch.

The WFM Tumult Championships are an evolving project for the Equinox team, according to their responses following the May 21 AMA. The results of the TBF Tumult Championship and from player surveys were helpful in providing improvements for upcoming events. Those changes might come slowly, as each season is planned in advance. In terms of the format, the team will keep what worked well in the previous event and make changes to what didn’t work, said Organized Play Director Cédric Leblanc in the May 21 AMA.

The dates for the World Championships Finals have also not been officially shared, but they will land shortly after the release of Set 4, Cédric said in the May 21 AMA. That set, Skybound Odyssey, launches officially Oct. 3.
