Online World Championship Qualifier dates released, BGA accounts updated

Three online qualifier events will happen across August and September as part of the lead-up to World Championship Finals in Paris. The dates for those competitions, which will be held on Board Game Arena, are as follows:

  • European Online Qualifier (UTC+2) – Aug. 16-17
  • American Online Qualifier (UTC-4) – Sept. 6-7
  • Asian Online Qualifier (UTC+9) – Sept. 27-28

More information will be coming on the format, as well as how and when to register for each event, which are set up to prioritize players across multiple time zones. These online events run alongside the ongoing regional qualifiers. Players may join any qualifier regardless of their nationality, and may play in as many as they like.

For the online events, there will be physical prizes for the top eight winners, but not for every participant.

To prepare for the online qualifiers, only one Altered account may now be connected to a BGA account in an effort to maintain fairness and prevent issues with unique cards. Prior to this, it was possible to connect multiple accounts, which some players could potentially use to test decks before putting their BGA site ranking on the line in competitive play. If this change impacts a player’s current setup, they’re encouraged to contact the BGA support team for help.

BGA has proved to be an essential part of ongoing play for Altered, especially in areas where fewer local organized play options are available. The Whispers from the Maze demo deck online tournament filled 512 openings in literally five minutes, and the Tournament Sponsorship Program has provided an online option for advancing a player’s Adventure Pass.

Worldwide, regional qualifier events are already underway, as Altered Aces’ Popeye claimed his spot among the 32 players headed with travel and accommodations paid to Paris for the World Championship Finals later this year. The next qualifier event will be the largest of the season at Lille Grand Palais in Lille, France, on July 5-6.
