Season 2 before mid-season patch meta report

Here a first meta report just before the mid-season patch. With the return of Haven, we expect a rise in popularity and viability for Axiom players, although this list is made before it returned.

The tiers

  • S Tier: These are the top-tier heroes, considered the best choices for competitive play, especially for championship-level matches. The top contenders are offering great versatility, high consistency, and the ability to perform well in a wide range of matchups.
  • A Tier: Heroes in this tier are strong choices that can achieve top cut finishes and may even win championships under the right circumstances.
  • B Tier: These heroes are capable of decent results but lack the consistency to be reliable top-tier picks.
  • C Tier: These heroes are currently difficult to use effectively in competitive play. Due to their reliance on having a good draw, it makes it hard to perform well in high-stakes matches.
  • D Tier: These heroes are considered the weakest and least competitive. These heroes currently seem not viable for the Tumult Championship.

The Heroes

Axiom

Sierra (B Tier): Sierra can shine when paired with Hive and the Nilam tree, offering a solid synergy that boosts her potential. However, her slow start and lack of adaptability make her vulnerable to more aggressive strategies. Her early game can struggle, and without backup plans to recover, she can easily falter. This makes her inconsistent and unreliable in some competitive settings.

Treyst (D Tier): Treyst’s lack of strong support mechanics and weakened consistency make him a poor contender in competitive environments while Haven is suspended. Without the ability to apply consistent pressure or maintain a firm board presence, he often fails to achieve the necessary results. His drawback right now is the reward of his ability is not giving him the advantage he needs, and that renders him largely irrelevant in high-level play.

Subhash (C Tier): Subhash can apply early aggression, putting pressure on opponents quickly. However, his power drops off significantly after the initial burst, and he struggles to replenish his resources. Without effective ways to sustain his offense or regain momentum, Subhash’s gameplay becomes predictable and easy to counter, making him an unreliable pick for long-term strategy.

Bravos

Kojo (A Tier): Kojo is a fast-paced hero capable of explosive plays, especially when combined with the right card synergies. His aggressive playstyle can put opponents on the back foot early on, but his lack of long-term consistency and vulnerability to specific matchups weaken his ability to consistently perform at a high level. With the right strategy, Kojo has a solid chance of reaching the top eight, though he’s not a guaranteed winner overall.

Atsadi (C Tier): Atsadi’s combo potential with energy bars gives him a dynamic, high-skill ceiling gameplay. However, the inconsistency in drawing the necessary big characters or ramping resources to full potential holds him back from dominating consistently. Despite this, Atsadi still has the tools to be very strong when things fall into place, making him a very powerful but high-risk hero. This makes him not consistent enough for tournament play.

Basira (B Tier): Basira is a well-rounded hero, capable of matching up against strong decks of the meta. Her ability to exhaust reserve abilities and utilize strong cheap cost characters can provide a strategic edge. However, she still faces competition from more dominant heroes and lacks the consistent power to stay at the very top of the tier list. With the right matchup, though, Basira can make a significant impact.

Lyra

Nevenka (C Tier): Nevenka shows potential but is often held back by inconsistent draws and her reliance on luck. While her gameplay can be strong when the pieces fall into place, she lacks the consistency and adaptability needed for competitive success. Her sometimes poor hero ability and struggles to build reliable synergies, make her a less reliable hero in high-level tournaments.

Auraq (D Tier): Auraq has strong uniques but struggles to maintain consistent play. Her reliance on luck and ability to manage resources effectively makes her unpredictable. Without a solid, repeatable strategy, she falls short in high-level play.

Fen (A Tier): Fen stands out as one of the top heroes, especially in tournament play. Her incredible resource management and card draw abilities offer great flexibility, allowing her to adjust her strategy in response to various opponents. With a strong foundation in consistent play, Fen is widely considered one of the best choices in the meta, offering powerful control over the game.

Muna

Teija (A Tier): Her strategies revolve around high-impact plays and maintaining solid control over the game. Though not as consistent as S-tier heroes, Teija’s strengths and ability to dominate when the setup is right make her a solid choice for competitive play.

Arjun (C Tier): Arjun is a versatile hero, capable of anchoring characters with protection, but the cost of achieving this synergy makes him less efficient in competitive play. His strategies require significant resource investment, and while the protection mechanic can be strong, Arjun doesn’t have the firepower to compete with the stronger decks.

Rin (B Tier): Rin is versatile, capable of playing both an aggressive or festival-based strategy. Her ability to draw cards and manipulate reserves gives her flexibility in deck-building, but like many other heroes, she suffers from inconsistency. Without the right cards at the right time, Rin can struggle to maintain the momentum and may fail to capitalize on the early-game advantages, which holds her back in tournaments.

Ordis

Sigismar (S Tier): Sigismar is a powerhouse hero with excellent removal, card draw, and disruption abilities. His low curve and control-oriented playstyle allows him to manipulate the board and gain value from various unique interactions. Sigismar is widely regarded as one of the best heroes due to his consistency and ability to outplay opponents. This makes him a top contender in competitive play.

Waru (D Tier): Waru’s recent nerfs have made him one of the least reliable heroes in the current meta. His lack of adaptability and the difficulty of keeping up with faster decks make him a weak choice for tournament play. Despite his previous potential, Waru now struggles to find success against better-positioned heroes, falling far behind in terms of consistency and power.

Gulrang (B Tier): She benefits from new cards like Sunisa and Mobile Armory, which help her maintain pressure across games. However, she still suffers from inconsistency, unable to consistently perform at a high level. Her potential to control and wear down opponents is solid, but her lack of staying power and inability to maintain tempo often holds her back from excelling in more competitive environments.

Yzmir

Akesha (C Tier): She can perform well in expeditions, but her reliance on the exhaust mechanic makes her very inconsistent. With limited viable options for reliable resource generation and too many scenarios that can disrupt her, she struggles to keep up in the current meta. She’s not a top-tier pick but can still manage in specific situations, making her a hit-or-miss choice.

Afanas (S Tier): He is a powerhouse in the current meta, offering an impressive combination of resource generation, card draw, and overall consistency. His abilities allow him to maintain steady pressure throughout a game and easily adapt to different strategies. With great tournament results, he is considered one of the two top heroes, providing a reliable and potent deck-building option.

Lindiwe (B Tier): She excels in sacrificing mechanics, offering the potential to generate immense value in the later stages of the game. Her ability to manage resources and manipulate the board is potent, but her reliance on card draws and the potential for inconsistency can hinder her performance. She needs a reliable game plan to succeed, and without the right sequence of draws, her impact can be limited.
