Skybound Odyssey Heroes

The fourth set, Skybound Odyssey, has been announced, and we got a new teaser image showing all the new heroes on it. Doing a little cutting in the image we can get a good look at six new heroes from the set, one from each faction. In this article we’ll have a closer look at them and make a few guesses about their abilities.

Axiom

Let’s start with the new Axiom hero. She looks like a youngish lady who has bonded with the new robots that they found around the Maze. She’s riding on the top of a robot’s shoulder, so my guess is that she interacts somehow with robots.  Now she will need a new niche separate to Sierra and Subhash, so maybe she gives boosts to robots or cost reductions on robots instead of just creating Brassbugs.

Bravos

The hero for Bravos has already been revealed. She appears to be a new character and she’s an interesting design. She wants to end the days early, so this encourages having fewer plays and thus larger characters in hand. This is quite a tough challenge for such a hero as you will end up risking more against removal with this deck with fewer plays, but the reward of a free 2/2/2 each turn and later with gigantic is pretty good. I’m expecting this one to lead to a new style of play for Bravos decks.

Lyra

The Lyra hero seems to be a young boy with a flying fish companion. He has a broomstick that seems to be able to paint things. Now the multi-coloured paint is reminiscent of Nevenka’s spray cans, however I see this character being less rebellious than Nev and more out for fun. As to his ability, I have no idea but being Lyra it kind of needs some random element to it.

Muna

The Muna hero seem to be a young woman with reddish brunette hair on a flying sheep or ram cloud. I wonder if it creates something like a 1/0/0 sheep with anchored or whether it gives a boost to an animal, a discount of 1 to the first animal or something like that.

Ordis

The flying knight is reminiscent of Bellerophon from Greek mythology; however, I would expect the hero to be their own character within Altered instead. He has his own wings instead of riding a Pegasi, their companion is a huge flying bird, indicating that they really tied into something to do with flying. Now flying in MtG is a combat ability, but I wonder whether it might give him an ability to turn to move a character between expeditions. This will make him have a more tactical ability.

Yzmir

The Yzmir hero is wearing a hat similar to the one of the Yzmir Mothbreeder and so might have something to do with moths. His staff is a moth lantern and he’s surrounded by mana moths. Given that his companion is a giant caterpillar, which is the pupa stage for a moth I feel that there might be a connection here. I would guess he makes a moth therefore, but we may have to discover how that is triggered as a moth every turn would be too powerful.

I guess we have a short while to wait now until Equinox reveals all the other heroes, but I for one am looking forward to brewing with them.
