The WFM Tumult Championships start today

Hundreds of events globally have been registered for the Whispers from the Maze Tumult Championships, running from Aug. 15-Sept. 14. While tournaments are beginning to show up on the website’s Event Locator, players are encouraged to ask their local game stores to get involved to bring the Tumults to their own regions. There is no minimum number of players to run a Tumult event.

As the culmination of local competitive play and following on the Trial by Frost Tumult Championships earlier this year, the WFM Tumults offers the chance to win several exclusive prizes while also influencing the home and secondary faction for a brand-new card.

One major change for the Tumults is the faction reward, which has changed from an oversized Faction Scout card to playable Faction Champion cards. Each faction brings one of its key rares, marked with a “Faction Champion” label, allowing players to show off their accomplishment in games going forward. The top player from each faction will receive their corresponding champion card. The top player in each Tumult Championship will win an exclusive, stitched-edge playmat with the illustration of The Hunger and a “Tumult Champion” label. The Top 8 players will each receive a WFM foil Adventure Pack, a track made of thicker material with a foil print showing off the locations from this set.

Tumult Championships count toward a player’s Adventure Pass progression, and players may attend as many championships as they like.

The WFM Tumults give players the opportunity to determine which factions will receive a brand-new landmark, Sofia, The First Outpost. When a player wins an event, their deck’s faction gains a point. At the end of the Tumult, the two factions with the most points that haven’t already won a reward for this cycle will unlock the common, rare and out-of-faction versions of the card. Similar to the TBF Tumults’ Kuraokami Unbound, all current and future Altered players will automatically receive all three versions of the digital card in their accounts. As they’ll be treated as “token” rarity, they can be added to decks as needed or included in Print-on-Demand orders.

To launch a Tumult event, LGS owners must contact their Altered distribution partner to request a Tumult kit; if you’re a player who wants to see a Tumult Championship in your area, this is the step you need to encourage your LGS to take. Once a distribution partner has validated the registration, the event can be created through the Event Manager platform. Organizing through the distribution partner is the only way to receive the Tumult kit rewards.
