Players can try out new Skybound Odyssey heroes and decks directly on Board Game Arena in the upcoming Demo Deck Tournament Sept. 21, according to a new post. The top player of each faction will be awarded 20 promo boosters and six SKY booster packs.

The event, which is open to players of all skill levels and done in partnership with AWOL, will run a standard Best-of-1 format, with eight rounds of Swiss going from 4 p.m.-8:30 p.m. UTC+2. The Top 16 will run matches from 9:30 p.m.-midnight UTC+2. Matches will be streamed with commentary from the AWOL team.

Players will choose from among six 40-card, premade demo decks, each led by a new hero joining the game in SKY. Those decklists will include older cards as well as new cards from the upcoming set, such as the ones being revealed in the lead-up to the set’s release (maybe even one of the cards debuted right here on the Blog).

Once the tournament has completed, the decks will remain available for players to try out for free on BGA, introducing the set to new and current players alike.

Registration for the tournament opens Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. UTC+2 on the AWOL Discord server. Once registered, gameplay will start if they are logged into BGA at the appropriate time on the day of the tournament. The Whispers from the Maze BGA Demo Deck Tournament, which was also done in partnership with AWOL, filled to its 512-player capacity within five minutes of the registration link being posted.

SKY begins prerelease events at local game stores Sept. 26, with new prerelease kits that each contain one guaranteed unique, seven boosters, a set of adventure cards, a punch-out marker card and an acrylic first-player token. The prerelease events also launch the Season 4 Adventure Pass.
