WFM Tumult Championships add new prizes, winning faction balancing

The Whispers from the Maze Tumult Championships, running Aug. 15-Sept. 14, bring updates such as new competition prizes and balancing for which factions may win the new Tumult Reward Card.

New victory guidelines

In the upcoming competition, Ordis and Yzmir will be unable to be chosen as the factions for a brand-new landmark, Sofia, The First Outpost. This change comes as a result of a new condition determining that the common and rare Tumult Reward Card will go to the two best-performing factions that haven’t already won a reward for the current reward cycle.

Ordis and Yzmir may still win the WFM Tumults generally, which will have a direct impact on the ongoing story and narrative. Yzmir, Bravos and Axiom are seeking to destroy The Hunger, while Ordis, Muna and Lyra are looking for a way to appease it.

Each time a player wins an event, their deck’s faction gains one point, similar to the Trial By Frost Tumults. The eligible faction with the most points will unlock Sofia, The First Outpost, with the second-place finisher receiving the out-of-faction rare version. The winning faction overall will determine the fate of the City of Scholars in the game’s lore.

As with the TBF Tumults’ Kuraokami Unbound, all current and future Altered players will receive the common, rare and out-of-faction rare in their digital collections. The cards, which are treated as “token” rarity, may be printed and added to decks as often as needed.

New rewards

The oversized Faction Scout cards from the TBF Tumults have evolved as well, with the new competition debuting Faction Champion Cards. These are playable rare cards from WFM marked with the Tumult Champion title. The cards include:

  • Axiom – The Grems
  • Bravos – Duel of Grit
  • Muna – Fair Fox
  • Lyra – Bliss Bassist
  • Ordis – Aegis Templar
  • Yzmir – Yzmir Mothbreeder

The top player from each faction at a Tumult event will receive their Faction Champion card regardless of where they placed in the overall ranking.

The winner of each Tumult Championship will receive a Gamegenic, stitched-edge WFM Champion Playmat featuring The Hunger. Each player in the Top 8 will receive a WFM Foil Adventure Pack, which are thicker Adventure Cards, similar to those distributed in the TBF Tumults.

Tumult Championships also count toward a player’s Adventure Pass progression.

Hosting and locating events

As with the TBF Tumults, there is no minimum number of players required to host a Tumult Championship, with the smallest group handling “up to 8 players.” Events are encouraged to run a constructed best-of-1 Swiss structure with 30-minute rounds leading to a single-elimination bracket.

Local game stores must contact their Altered distribution partner to organize a Tumult Championship.

Beginning July 22, stores will be able to choose a “Tumult event type” when creating an event. That also allows players to filter for Tumults in the Event Locator.
