World Championship Qualifier events are open for registration
The upcoming World Championship Qualifiers, the first round of competitive play leading to Altered’s first World Championship Finals, are open for registration. One of the earliest events, the Dutch Altered Championship, will welcome up to 128 players on June 28 (with 93 currently registered). The first event in France, running July 5-6, will have space for up to 1,024 players.
Players are able to participate in any qualifier, regardless of nationality, to get through to the World Championship Finals. Dedicated threads for both the qualifier in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, and Lille, France, have launched to help players connect to share travel and accommodation costs.
The dates and partners for at least 10 additional qualifiers have been updated on the original announcement article, including the following:
- Germany – July 26, White Rabbit, Essen
- United States – Aug. 9-10, Common Ground Games, Dallas, Texas
- Canada – Aug. 30-31, Imaginaire, Montreal
- Chile – Aug. 30-31, Demente Games, Santagio
- Taiwan – Aug. 30-31, Gokids Base, Gokids Con
- Spain – Sept. 6-7, Infrefest, Barcelona
- United States – Sept. 13-14, Games & Stuff, Baltimore, Maryland
- United Kingdom – Sept. 13, Organized Play Events, London
- Italy – Sept. 20-21, Organized Play Events, Milan
- Greece – Sept. 26-28, Organized Play Events, Athens
At least three finalists will be decided through international events held on Board Game Arena. Those qualifiers will be held across different time zones to give players worldwide the best chance to compete.
While physical prizes will be standard at the regional qualifiers, the digital qualifiers will only supply prizing to the top 8 players, according to Organized Play Director Cédric Leblanc in the May 21 AMA.
Each qualifier will welcome at least one player to the main event at the Paris World Finals later this fall with travel and accommodations paid for by Equinox. The final event will bring together a total of 32 players, with 24 coming through worldwide qualifiers and eight through the Last Chance Qualifier held just before the World Finals.
Just as the qualifiers are launching shortly after the release of the Whispers from the Maze set, the World Championships themselves will be held shortly after the release of Set 4, Cédric said in the May 21 AMA.
